![]() After a long week, most of the Latin team headed home, with some seniors sticking around to party at Grad Bash. Hundreds of people crowded into the auditorium to receive individual and team awards. The last day of the trip was for the awards ceremony. “I enjoyed spending time with an amazing team and sharing a passion for the classics,” junior Isabel Mcdaniel said. The day ended with Latin students being able to go to a dance and enjoy their last night in Orlando. Bystanders could find many people in togas to match the Latin theme. To end the competition, students could participate in games and walk around the hotel to find multiple booths selling items. After the tests, there was Certamen, a competition similar to that of Brain Bowl in which students were quizzed on their Latin knowledge. For the test, students from all over crowded into a huge auditorium. Tests began at 8:00 a.m., and students either took one test and did a project or took two tests. “They were all very entertaining and smart.” “I loved the people and students,” senior Eli Mears said. The students then went to bed knowing Friday was the big day, as Latin students from all over Florida would be coming to compete at state and try to win as many awards as possible. Afterwards, students split up into groups and studied, took a lunch break and then studied again until dinner. Before the day started, Maclay gathered and had a meeting to go over the game plan. Thursday was a day to get adjusted and prepare for the upcoming competitions. “My favorite thing about the Latin state was how close all the kids became and how excited they were to be there,” Latin Teacher Kristen Youngblood said. After a long day at the theme park, the Maclay Latin squad headed back to rest at their hotel. The group of kids and teachers split up into groups and got to enjoy rides, bond and get to know other fellow Latin students. After a four hour ride, the students rolled into Universal Studios around 1:00 p.m. ![]() 6 at 8:30 in the morning when all the Latin students loaded onto the bus. The students competed to end up placing third overall in academics and seventh overall for everything. Eventually, he reached the phantoms of sensation.
